Fitted wardrobe with lit interior in Dedham

The job

This is a period property in Dedham with exposed beams throughout and an angled ceiling running across one side of the bedroom. A standard wardrobe was never going to work here: it would either not fit under the slope at all, or it would leave a large gap up to the ceiling and look like it had been dropped into the room as an afterthought.

What we did

The wardrobe was made to measure for the space and scribed to the angled ceiling so the doors follow the line of the room. The front was made in a traditional shaker style and finished in PU spray paint. Inside, the carcasses were lined in a light oak-effect finish and fitted with hanging rails at two levels, and we fitted internal lights that come on automatically as the doors are opened, which makes a real difference in a bedroom where the wardrobe sits under a slope and would otherwise be in shadow.

The result

A fitted wardrobe in Dedham that sits under the angled ceiling with no gap above it, lights that come on as you open the doors, and a sprayed shaker front that suits the age of the house.
