Fitted wardrobe in Colchester

The job

A homeowner in Colchester wanted a wardrobe that filled the wall properly rather than a freestanding unit with daylight showing around it. Shop-bought wardrobes tend to leave a gap at the top and down the sides, and in a room where nothing is perfectly square those gaps only become more obvious once the unit is in place. The brief was straightforward: use the whole wall, floor to ceiling, and make it look like part of the room.

What we did

The wardrobe was made to measure for the room and built in our own workshop rather than assembled from standard carcasses. The fillers were cut tight to the walls and the ceiling, which is the part that makes the difference on a job like this: it closes the unit into the room so there is no shadow gap at the top and nothing to collect dust down the sides. The front was made as four shaker-style doors across the run. Everything was then spray-finished in PU paint in our spray shop, in Farrow and Ball Cornforth White. Inside, the wardrobe was set out with hanging rails at two levels on one side and a run of shelving alongside, so it takes hanging and folded clothes rather than being one long rail.

The result

A fitted wardrobe in Colchester that runs the full height and width of the wall, with a sprayed finish and no gaps around the edges. The customer was happy with how it turned out.
