Fitted solid oak bedroom furniture in Harwich

The job

The customer already had sliding wardrobes fitted by a builder and was not happy with the standard of the work. They came back to us to have the bedroom done properly, this time in solid oak and made to measure for the room. The brief was a full bedroom design rather than wardrobes on their own: storage that suited the space, plus a headboard and bed surround that matched. Access inside the room was limited, so the storage had to be planned around that from the start.

What we did

We made the whole bedroom and fitted it at the property in Harwich. The wardrobes have traditional shaker style doors in solid oak, with solid oak faces and oak veneer carcasses throughout. Because access in the room was tight, we built drawers into the run and hung them on undermounted runners so they open smoothly and lose no space at the sides. A matching panelled headboard and a bed surround were made in the same solid oak, and we finished the room with solid oak skirting so everything ties together. The whole set was sprayed in a 2k lacquer at a 10% gloss level, which gives an even, hard wearing finish across the oak.

Challenges

Limited access in the room meant a standard wardrobe layout would not have worked here. We planned the storage around it, using banks of drawers where hanging space would have been awkward to reach, so none of the room went to waste.

The result

The bedroom took three weeks from start to finish. The customer, who had used us before, was delighted with how it turned out and has been showing the room to family and friends. Traditional solid oak shaker doors with a sprayed lacquer finish take years of experience to get right, and this is the kind of fitted bedroom joinery we are glad to put our name to.
